2023 EGA Interclub

The following members have qualified for the 2023 Interclub team based on gross scores from the 2022 Club Championship:

First Alternates

Alternative to EGA Interclub

Below is a suggested replacement for the Edmonton Golf Association's Interclub tournament. This proposal is based on feedback from members. There are two reasons for not joining the EGA's Interclub.

The first reason is a lack of direction and commitment from the EGA to run a quality Men's Interclub program since Kevin Macalpine stopped organizing it for the EGA several years ago. Last year, for example, the A team did not play any matches and the B team did not play a full schedule either. The Men's Club Executive does not have a lot of faith in the EGA to run it successfully this coming year.

The second reason is, if we opt out of the EGA's Interclub, the Men's Club registration fees will not have to be used to:

As you can see this is a significant cost saving each year, which is currently only offset by the $60.00 per player fee (for a total of $1440.00) that we charge the Interclub members. The difference is made up from all member's Men's Club registration fees.

Proposed Interclub Team Suggestion

The last 2 club champions will make up the 2 captains.

The top 5 (and ties) from the previous years Club Championship get automatic designations on the team.

The Mayday Masters will then identify the top 17 (or fewer based on the number of ties for the top 5 in the previous year's Club Championship) players, based on gross score, that will then make a total of 24 players.

The following Wednesday there will be a captain's draft where both captains will select their team of 12 from the list of 22 remaining players. Subs for each team will also be selected from the next group of individuals finishing outside the top 17 at the Mayday Masters.

A coin toss (or putt off) will determine the first pick. It goes as follows: the winner of coin toss can either have the first pick or give that pick to the other captain. In exchange for the first pick the captain getting the second pick will also get the third pick. From there it will alternate until all players are selected.

Scoring will be 3 points (1 point for front, 1 point for back and 1 point for overall) per match. Each match is a two-man best ball without handicaps. Scorecards will be turned into the Pro Shop at the end of the match, who will compile the results. Results will be published on this page of the Men's Club website.

Captains will set their pairings prior to the matches. Just like the Interclub, the captain will designate each pairing from 1 to 6 and the captains will let their own pairings know which place they will play in (so each team will not know who they play until that morning). Captains can play in any of the pairings with no restrictions.

All matches will occur on Sunday mornings to help avoid work conflicts. There will be a total of 3 Sunday matches (not necessarily on consecutive weekends). We may play all the matches at Broadmoor or we may try organizing matches at different courses. We may also try to organize some 12-man matches against other courses.

Total points will declare a winner. If tied after 3 matches a fourth and final Sunday match will be played to declare a winner.

Each player will get a beverage of their choice after each match.

Following the 3rd match, there will be a wrap-up which will include a steak sandwich with all trimmings and a beverage of choice for all participants.

Everyone who plays will receive a prize. However, the winning team members will receive a prize of greater value than the losing team.

Each player is responsible for their own green fees and carts, these will not be subsidized.
