In Memorial

Sonia Rywak

Sonia passed away on the last Men's Night of 2023, October 4th, 2023.

Sonia was the long-time starter for the Broadmoor Men's Golf Club. She did everything for "her men", including bringing cookies on Men's Nights, taking photos during tournaments, organizing spotters for the Club Championship, among a hundred other things. She always did the spotting on the 15th hole of the Club Championship and would talk to the members via her walkie-talkie, encouraging everyone to hit the fairway and having cookies available if you did.

Sonia was a Broadmoor ambassador and organized corporate tournaments along with her team. She was always very organized and efficient.

Sonia was unable to finish her last year as starter but helped out by teaching replacements Cheryl and Wendy. She was helping the Men's Club until her health finally prevented her from being at the course.

Sonia and her husband Larry have a plaque on the 16th hole's bench.

Matt Wright

Matthew Gordon Wright passed away on August 28th, 2023 at the age of 23.

Matt was not a member of the Broadmoor Men's Golf Club but he had worked in the pro-shop of Broadmoor Public Golf Course for the past nine years. Matt often worked Men's Nights so most Men's Club members got to know him very well. He was a great guy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt's friends and family, especially his Dad, Broadmoor Executive Golf Pro Trent Wright.

Rick Siewiertoka

Long-time member Rick Siewiertoka lost his battle with cancer on May 4th, 2023.

Rick had battled cancer for several years. Whenever he was healthy, Rick was a very good golfer, playing on the Interclub team for many years.

Rick's last year in the Men's Club was a successful one, winning his flight in the 2022 Freeze Your Butt and finishing second in both the Chapman Challenge and the September Slam.

He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rick, his wife Kathy, his family and friends.

Larry Rywak

Larry Rywak, the husband of our beloved starter Sonia, passed away in his home, surrounded by his family, on December 10th, 2022.

Larry was the rules official for the Broadmoor Men's Golf Club as well as a fixture around Broadmoor. Larry wrote the Men's Club local rules (click here) and was always available to help with Men's Club on Wednesdays and tournaments. We will miss his wry smile and dry sense of humor.

Whatever I write here doesn't seem adequate to express how we really feel about Larry. We will miss him terribly and it will be strange to not see him at the golf course in 2023.

Larry Yaremchuk

Long-time Men's Club member Larry Yaremchuk passed away from cancer at the age of 72 on October 29th, 2022.

Larry wasn't able to play regularly this past year due to his health issues. In 2021, however, he finished second in his flight in the Club Championship.

Larry will be missed by all members of the Men's Club but especially his regular group which consisted of his brother Gary, Dennis Tostowaryk, Ron McGunigle, Glen Kordoban and Dave Coffey.

Bench Dedication

On August 31st, a short Bench Dedication for Larry and Sonia Rywak was held on the #16th hole at Broadmoor.

Jim Piggott

Jim Piggott lost a short but fierce battle with MDS in February 2022.

Jim was a long time member of the Broadmoor Men's Golf Club and will be missed by his many friends in the Men's Club.

Joe Demont

Joe Demont lost his battle with cancer in March 2021.

Joe was a long time member of both the Broadmoor Men's Club and Senior Men's Clubs.

Joe had to take 2020 off from the Men's Club due to his battle with cancer. Prior to that he was a fixture at Broadmoor Men's Club tournaments and events, winning his flight at the 2019 Mayday Masters and finishing 3rd in his 2019 Club Championship flight.

Brian Wolfe

On December 31st, 2019, Brian Wolfe unexpectedly passed away at the Edmonton Bridge Centre due to a heart attack.

"Wolfie" was a long time member of both the Broadmoor Men's Club and Senior Men's Clubs.

His last year of Men's Club golf was a good one, winning his flight in the Men's Club Championship and finishing 11th on the Men's Club Order of Merit.
